Can England level the series?
England captain Nasser Hussain (right) and his Indian counterpart Sourav Ganguly
India play out for a draw in the second Test leaving England needing to win in Bangalore to square the series.

Can Hussain's men pull it off?

Indian openers Shiv Sunder Das and Deep Dasgupta blunted the England attack in the morning session with a patient stand of 119, and England never looked like forcing the win.

Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly took India to the close of play, while centurion Craig White bagged the man of the match award.

But can England square the series in Bangalore?

England played exceptionally well in the Ahmedabad Test and were far above the Indians in all the departments of the game including the captaincy, but Indians are a far better side at home and will definitely raise their game and will win the series 2-0.

England have batted much better in this match than they did in the first Test

England can square this test series with India only if they come to the same level not just on the field but also off the field. You will beat any team at any time if you build that winning attitude all over. Until that happens with the English team, it is going to be an uphill battle for Nasser and his ten.
Mahabala Shetty, USA

England may not have the potent bowling attack to take 20 wickets on a regular basis against top class Test sides. But the most important thing is they have batted much better in this match than they did in the first Test meaning that England have become a much more difficult team to beat.

If they can win the toss, bat first and as well again in Bangalore as they did in the first innings in Ahmedabad, and gain a 150+ lead, the Indians would be under extreme and totally unexpected pressure and England would have every chance of squaring the series.
David, UK

Congratulations to Nasser Hussain who is clearly an exceptionally calm and balanced captain (contrasting sharply with the impulsive Saurav Ganguly!) Given their performance in Ahmedabad, England and India must have equal chances of winning the third Test. The series is poised for a superb finish.
Somnath Mukhopadhyay, UK

If English players show the same grit, panache, mental strength and courage as they have displayed in the Ahmedabad Test there are greater possibilities of a favourable result for England and hence their chances of levelling the series. English players should not become smug after their good performance in the second test but should carry on the good work .
Sanjeev Verma, India

After regaining some pride after the first Test shambles, England are definitely capable of squaring the series
Jez Goddard, England

Much depends upon whether Nasser Hussain can surprise us again by winning yet another toss! If England can bat first again, I am confident they could build a decent total resulting in a significant first innings lead. India, despite defending gallantly today, would admit deep down that their resolve has been dented. Faced with a similar situation in the next test, I'm convinced they would crumble batting last.
Ed Roffey, England

England players have shown their ability in the second Test match. I'm sure they will try again their best to level the series. On the other hand, Indian players have not performed up to their level best. If they do so, we will watch a very positive cricket. Good luck to Ganguly....
Subhasish, UK/India

I believe after regaining some pride after the first Test shambles England are definitely capable of squaring the series. We just have to believe in ourselves, the ablity is in the squad. We just need that vital ingrediant - luck. Come on lads, the country is behind you!
Jez Goddard, England

Well done England! I think India started this match with an air or overconfidence, and quite rightly have been outplayed by England. But for Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman, India might have had more to do on the last day. The last test at Bangalore will be very interesting.
