Is Wales the right Ryder venue?
Celtic Manor in Wales has been confirmed as the venue for the 2010 Ryder Cup

Is Wales the right venue for golf's premier team event?

HAVE YOUR SAY

Celtic Manor in Wales has fended off competition from Scottish and English venues to stage the Ryder Cup in 2009/2010.

Four Scottish venues - Gleneagles, Loch Lomond, Turnberry and Carnoustie - were in contention.

The decision in favour of the Welsh resort is a major blow for the supporters of the Scottish bid.

Has the right decision been made for golf's top team event?

Or do you feel another venue could have made the grade?

HAVE YOUR SAY

Like the majority of European tour events the Ryder cup is destined to be played on third rate inland courses where money in the pockets of the PGA (and therefore the players) rules rather than the quality of the courses.
Chris Hayes, England

Contrary to what the organisers and their Labour cronies in the Welsh Assembly say (after all, golf is the game of the working classes, isn't it?), the Ryder Cup being played at Celtic Manor will bring no real benefits to Wales. It's position close to the English border means that the majority of visitors won't venture further into the rest of the country. Hotels around the Gloucestershire and Herefordshire area will probably see more benefits than those further west. As far as I'm concerned, I hope it rains.
Gareth Williams, Wales

It seems a bit strange when you consider the outstanding golfing facilities Scotland has to offer
Steve McCall, Switzerland

Why is Scotland so upset about us winning the bid? The bid wasn't rigged, it's about time somebody gave us a chance and for the Scots to stop moaning about it. We have some very beautiful courses, not only in the south, but west and north as well. They have got 2014, so where exactly is the problem? Let Wales have a go and we'll do the Ryder Cup and the golfing world proud!
Richard Williams, Wales

It is disappointing for Scotland obviously. It also seems a bit strange when you consider the outstanding golfing facilities Scotland has to offer - some of the best in the world. Having said that I'm sure the Welsh will make the most of it. Similar noises were made about the Rugby World Cup in Wales. It turned out to be a fantastic tournament. Well done Wales.
Steve McCall, Switzerland

What a Great day for Wales! It makes me feel proud to be welsh, especially as I was born at the "Manor" when it used to be a hospital many years ago! Well done to Terry Matthews and co for their hard graft promoting the course for the past couple of years - never forget your Welsh!
Julian Wall, Florida, USA

Celtic Manor is a world class resort, has excellent transport links and close proximity to the thriving cities of Cardiff and Bristol. Scotland should not be disappointed with the outcome. They have the event for 2014 and have hosted it before.
Dudley Joseph, Wales

Yet again money rather than tradition has had the final say
Brian Henderson, England
It's nice to hear the Scots whinging, when the bidding process was extended by six months to allow their bid to get up to scratch. That it didn't speaks volumes. Wales deserves it's chance. On a wider point, surely it'll be good for the sport if the venue is rotated between the countries of Europe, not just the UK. The sport will reach a wider audience and that can only be a good thing.
Jon, Cymru

It seems that the Scottish are very bad losers. The Scots have held the tournament before so it should be available for others to host. Many Scots should listen to Colin Montgomery who said it was a good idea as it would only benefit European golf!
Matthew Smith, Wales

Yet again money rather than tradition has had the final say. Celtic Manor is a good course but nothing more and no amount of money or re-design to what will effectively be another US-type golf course will change that. It should be played on a links course either in Wales or elsewhere in Europe.
Brian Henderson, England

It is perverse of Scotland to complain of a rigged bid - given Gleneagles has been promised the tournament in 2014. No other country had a chance to bid for 2014.
Darren Waters, UK

It is about time that the competition was shared around Europe more effectively
Charles Gordon, UK
I think the decision is a complete joke. How can Celtic Manor even be mentioned in the same breath as the great Scottish courses. It's ludicrous that Scotland has only hosted the Ryder Cup once. Surely the best players on both sides of the Atlantic should be given the opportunity to pits their skills not just against the best opponents but also the best courses. Big money rules OK!
Brian, Scotland

I would have liked to see it go to Carnoustie as I believe it would have maximised Europe's chances. Also, some of the holes on Celtic Manor have to be redesigned so how could fair comparisons be made? When it was ruled impossible to play the final 36 holes of the Wales Open on one day, alarm bells should have started ringing, even though it is claimed this will not be a problem by 2010.
David Cooper, Scotland

If the Celtic Manor turns into the Celtic bog then they can go to the Millennium Stadium, shut the roof and play crazy golf.
Dafydd, Cymru

I am pleased to see the Ryder Cup go to Celtic Manor as this will be a huge boost for golf in Wales. However, it is a shame that the 2014 tournament will go to Scotland as it is about time that the competition was shared around Europe more effectively. After all, it is no longer a Great Britain and Ireland team only.
Charles Gordon, UK

This will provide a major boost to the country and to the sport within Wales
Mark Davies, UK
This decision is a joke! Celtic Manor couldn't handle the rain earlier this year and there is no reason to say that this problem will not happen again. Scotland's courses, especially Turnberry would have proved a unique Ryder Cup experience and a major test for the Americans in a non-American environment. Celtic Manor will play into the hands of the opposition.

Scotland is the home of golf and has only hosted 1 Ryder Cup. The same number as Wales will have had by 2010. Need I say more?
Scott, Scotland

It is a case of a clear conflict of interest and against the spirit of the Ryder Cup. It is now tarnished forever thanks to Schofield.
Dave Wallace, Scotland

Celtic Manor is without a doubt the right venue for the cup. It has had the strongest bid and the entire country is behind Terry Matthews.

Scotland took victory for granted and failed to present a bid based on one course.

This gave the impression of in-fighting among clubs and of a poorly managed bid.
Ken Skates, Wales

Taking the Ryder Cup to Wales is a marvellous idea. This will provide a major boost to the country and to the sport within Wales.
Mark Davies, UK
