St Helens winger Darren Albert became the "fastest man in rugby league" when he won the Sport Relief challenge at Wigan's Robin Park Arena. The flying Australian thrilled the sell-out crowd, around 1,000 people cramming into the athletics stadium to watch the Powergen sprint challenge.
He dominated his heat then cruised to victory in the 100m grand final in a time of 11.365 seconds.
Whitehaven's Craig Calvert was second in 11.593, with Dave Doherty of Leeds Rhinos third in 11.667.
The 32 players who took part in the sprint came from the Tetley's Super League and LHF Healthplan National League clubs.
The event looks set to raise more than �2,500 for Sport Relief.
Officials were overwhelmed with the support for the event, with a number of fans unable to get in to the Robin Park Arena.
A spokesperson for the organisers said: "Because nothing like this has ever been organised before we simply didn't know how many people would turn up.
"While we are delighted that we managed to sell the stadium out, we would like to apologise to all the fans who were locked outside the stadium".
