Czech striker Roman Bednar has revealed his surprise at the formation employed by Scotland in the Euro 2012 qualifier won 1-0 by his side in Prague.

The West Brom forward, who featured off the bench against Craig Levein's side, told BBC Scotland he had expected the visitors to adopt a 4-5-1 approach.

However, he said that coach Levein's tactics made it tough for the Czechs.

"I was surprised. The last couple of years, Scotland have played very well the 4-5-1 type of style," he said.

"I was a little bit surprised because this was even more defensive, 4-6-0, and it was surprising and for us pretty difficult to break down.

"But we managed it from one set piece."

However, the 27-year-old, who has experience of playing in Scotland with Hearts, revealed he felt the home side deserved their victory.

"I don't think Scotland looked like they were going to score," he said.

"You know, we tried to push the whole game from the first minute. We tried to compete for every ball like Scotland. It was a tough game.

"Everybody, with this kind of style, it's going to be hard work to break it down, but one set-piece, we win 1-0 and I think we deserve it.

"It wasn't an easy night, that is the point. It was pretty difficult, because you need 90 minutes to try and break them down.

"Maybe the game would have looked a little bit different if you lined up 4-5-1, but this was Scotland's choice."
