Fans are waiting for the Scottish Football Review findings
The Scottish Football Association is "50 years out of date", according to a senior source involved in the Scottish Football Review. The source added that the governing body was "institutionalised and in need of reform". The official findings of the review, chaired by the former First Minister Henry McLeish, are expected to be delivered on Monday. And BBC Scotland has been told the report will "take no prisoners". The first of a two-part study will concentrate on football at youth level, with the second instalment due in the autumn. Having been approached by the SFA, McLeish agreed to chair the Scottish Football Review committee in February 2009. The SFA has had the report since March and its findings have been discussed at board level. Among other things, the review is understood to call for £500m of investment in football facilities and infrastructure, a football academy to nurture top youth talent and professional clubs being properly audited to show how they spend the public money they receive. McLeish is also understood to want the SFA and the Scottish Premier League to work more closely together for the benefit of the game. Scottish Government ministers are understood to be very interested in McLeish's proposals for sport in schools, which call on pupils to be given a minimum of three PE sessions a week. It is also anticipated that funds from the football authorities will be forthcoming to help. A senior source told BBC Scotland: "I think the SFA will move on this dramatically. There is a new Scotland manager in place and probably soon a new SFA chief executive. The bigger we think, the better."
