McLeish spoke to BBC Scotland following the 1-0 win against Austria |
Scotland manager Alex McLeish has said the move to appoint Gordon Smith as the SFA's new chief executive is step in the right direction. Following Scotland's 1-0 friendly win against Austria, McLeish said Smith would be judged on merit.
"It's quite exciting to think that Gordon is coming in," said McLeish.
"I'm sure it's different from what people would have expected, but he's got business experience, and great football knowledge."
BBC Scotland understands that Smith's appointment should be confirmed at a meeting of the SFA board at Hampden Park in Glasgow on Friday.
Speaking exclusively to BBC Scotland following Scotland's win in Vienna, McLeish said: "For me, it sounds like a really positive move.
"We know at the end of the day, we're judged by results - I am, and Gordon will be as well, but I wish him all the best."
