Smith has won the Scottish Cup with two different teams

Smith, 65, helped steer St Mirren and Aberdeen to Scottish Cup triumphs in a long career in management.

Alastair Dempster - chairman of sportscotland, the national agency dedicated to developing sport and recreation - is awarded the CBE.

Dundee United chairman Eddie Thompson has been awarded an OBE for his services to the grocery industry.

Smith began his managerial career with Stenhousemuir in 1969 and moved to Stirling Albion five years later.

He arrived at St Mirren in 1986 and recorded a famous Scottish Cup win the following year.

Two years on and he moved to Aberdeen, where he was made co-manager with Jocky Scott.

And Scottish Cup glory followed again with a triumph over Celtic in 1990, making him the only manager other than Jock Stein to win the trophy with two clubs.

Smith was sacked by the Dons in 1992 to make way for Willie Miller and spent two years coaching Clyde.

The man who has been president of the Scottish Football Managers and Coaches Association for 15 years took charge of the Scotland Under-21s on a part-time basis in 1998 and remained in the position for almost three years.

He returned to full-time club management in 2000 with Dundee United but left the club in 2002 after a disappointing start to the SPL campaign.

Smith moved to Ross County in November 2002 but the Highland club have yet to mount a serious challenge for the First Division title.
