O'Neill to discuss Dane's future
Wieghorst in training with his Celtic teammates

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill says he will speak to midfielder Morten Wieghorst before the end of the season regarding an extension to the player's contract.

Wieghorst has hardly featured in the Celtic first team this season as he continues his recovery from a debilitating brain disease.

But O'Neill hopes to allow him some first team action before the season ends, with Celtic on the verge of clinching the league title with a number of games remaining.

"I have had a short conversation with Morten and I am hoping that he will be involved with us between now and the end of the season," O'Neill told the Celtic website.

Frustrating

"He has been doing very well over the last few months although I would have preferred it if he had been able to get a loan period and get some games under his belt before now.

"I am keeping an open mind and I will certainly speak to him in more detail before the end of the season."

Wieghorst understands the manager's position as the team have been virtually unbeatable in their defence of the SPL title.

"The lads who have played throughout the season have done an excellent job and I'm absolutely delighted at the position we are in," he told the Celtic website.

"I am ready to step it up now. At times it's been a wee bit frustrating but I'm still enjoying training and being here.

"I've had a lot worse things to face in the last two years or so."
