Vogts wants to play Auld Enemy
Paul Scholes scores for England
England won on their last visit to Hampden
Scotland coach Berti Vogts wants to re-establish the annual Scotland-England fixture as part of his attempts to rebuild the nation's footballing stature.

Failure to qualify for the past two major tournaments has seen the Scots slip to 51st in the Fifa world rankings.

Vogts feels that the Scots can only improve by playing against the world's best teams, and he includes England in that bracket.

He has asked Scottish Football Association chief executive David Taylor to speak to his English counterparts to try to resurrect the fixture.

Vogts also intends to speak to England manager Sven Goran Eriksson personally to gauge his opinion on the matter.

"The fans would be very happy if we could watch the England team at Hampden," he said.

Vogts also announced that he intends to play as many top-class teams as possible.

He believes that is the only way to properly assess his players' abilities and to allow them to improve.

"For international games I am looking only for strong teams - Italy, England, Spain, Brazil - teams that will help us," he added.
