Wales scrum-half tests the Fiji defence during last weekend's draw in Cardiff

Mike Phillips has warned New Zealand they will face a wounded Wales side eager to redeem themselves when the two sides clash in Cardiff on Saturday.

Defeats to Australia and South Africa were followed by a 16-16 draw with Fiji for which Wales have been pilloried.

The All Blacks, who Wales have not beaten for 57 years, now represent the last hope for success this autumn.

"We've hurt for the last three weeks, so we should have a lot to give next week," said scrum-half Phillips.

"It's a big week ahead, and we've got to put things right and get respect back from our fans.

"New Zealand are obviously far better opposition, and we've got to switch on and focus far better than we did [against Fiji]."

"We can turn it around, without doubt. We've got to pick ourselves up and we've got to do our talking on the pitch, simple as that."

Phillips and fellow British and Irish Lions Test starter Stephen Jones are almost certain to be restored to the Wales starting line-up when coach Warren Gatland announces his team on Thursday.

The 46th-minute introduction of the two half-backs from the bench last Friday helped Wales recover from trailing 13-6 at half-time, although despite the changes the home side were unable to prevent Fiji claiming a draw.

Gatland's men have now gone six Tests without a win, which represents their worst run of results since 2003.

Wales attack coach Rob Howley has publically criticised the performance of Richie Rees and Dan Biggar, who started at nine and 10 in the Millennium Stadium last weekend.

Back-row Ryan Jones, restored to the captaincy for that game after returning from a calf injury, has also been publically stripped of the captaincy by Gatland, who has confirmed that Lions and Scarlets hooker Matthew Rees will resume the role he held in Jones' absence.

"There is certainly no lack of motivation playing the All Blacks. It's going to be a good test of character for a few individuals," Gatland said.

"The disappointing thing is that we haven't kicked on. There were certain areas against Fiji we were exposed in that were strengths last week against South Africa. For me, that's a disappointment."
