Ben Lewis had just come back from 16 months out with knee problems |
Ospreys flanker Ben Lewis has been discharged from hospital following the neck injury he suffered against Aironi. The 24-year-old was carried off after picking up an injury in the 23rd minute of Sunday's 38-6 Magners League win. "I'm pleased to be able to say that it's good news regarding Ben's recovery," said Ospreys physio Chris Towers in a statement. "Ben has now been discharged from hospital, and fortunately, has no lasting damage." That was after Lewis went to Morriston Hospital in Swansea on Saturday night after being taken from the Liberty Stadium pitch on a stretcher. "Under the circumstances, it is still a serious injury and we are still liaising with specialists regarding his recovery, but the prognosis is very good," added Towers. "Once the initial stage has settled down we will be in a better position to confirm and target a date for Ben to return, which fingers crossed, will not be too lengthy a process." Lewis has recently forced his way back into the regional side after 16 months out following two knee injuries. Ospreys forwards coach Jonathan Humphreys told BBC Sport Wales immediately after the injury on Saturday: "Ben was playing exceptionally well for us. "Having come on in the last three games and done very, very well he was looking forward to getting his chance in the number seven jersey."
