Ospreys prop Craig Mitchell's three Wales caps have been as a replacement |
Ospreys prop Craig Mitchell has been called into Wales' summer squad as a replacement for injured British and Irish Lions prop Gethin Jenkins. The 24-year-old prop, a specialised tighthead, was on the standby list but has been added to Warren Gatland's 27-man squad as Jenkins has a calf injury. The three-times capped Mitchell will be back-up for tighthead Adam Jones and looseheads John Yapp and Paul James. Cardiff Blues rookie Scott Andrews has been added to Wales' standby list. James Hook, Luke Charteris, Dwayne Peel and Martyn Williams were not named in coach Warren Gatland's summer squad to host world champions South Africa in Cardiff and their subsequent two-Test tour to New Zealand. Centre Hook will undergo surgery on his troublesome shoulder injury after the Ospreys' Magners League Grand Final against Leinster on Saturday. | 606: DEBATE |
Lock Charteris has a neck problem while it has been decided that scrum-half Peel and flanker Williams need rest. But Jenkins departed his side's 28-21 Amlin Challenge Cup final win over Toulon on Sunday at half-time with a calf injury - and has since been ruled out for six weeks. Injury had also ruled out Duncan Jones, Richard Hibbard, Dafydd Jones, Dan Lydiate, Gareth Cooper, Tom Shanklin and Mark Jones, while Melbourne Rebels-bound Gareth Delve was not be considered.
