Full-back Dan Newton's try gave Llanelli an early lead against Quins |
Llanelli saw off west Wales rivals Carmarthen Quins in Saturday's Swalec Cup final to claim their 14th title. Full-back Dan Newton broke through on the left to give Llanelli an early lead, with fly-half Steve Shingler adding a conversion and a penalty. Gareth Cull's kick got Quins going, but Ben Morgan's converted try on half-time gave Llanelli a healthy 17-3 lead. Wing Jamie Davies' 63rd-minute try gave Quins hope but Llanelli held on despite having Morgan in the sin-bin late on. The Cup was a culmination of a day of Swalec finals at the stadium, Abercarn beating Trebanos 39-3 to win the Bowl title, while Maesteg pipped Kenfig Hill 33-25 in the Plate.
