Mark Jones has a long injury history, but has still won 47 caps |
Scarlets and Wales wing Mark Jones will find out in May whether or not a knee injury will force him to retire. Jones, 30, has been out since picking up the latest in a string of knee injuries when he was with Wales training in November. The 47-cap 2008 Grand Slam winner told Scrum V: "You've just got to be guided by the surgeon, really. "It's not been 100% since I've come back and it's been giving me some problems," added Jones. Builth Wells flier Jones battled with Leigh Halfpenny for a Wales spot all last season and was ready to renew his challenge in November before the cartilage problem struck. Injuries have severely disrupted the Scarlets captain's career since his Wales debut against England in 2001. | 606: DEBATE |
Jones, who has scored 13 tries for his country, has had both of his knees reconstructed, but battled back into the Test arena after each operation. He added: "I've got an appointment to see the surgeon in the second week in May and he's going to take a look at my knee and assess it and see where it stands in terms of being able to continue playing next season. "The surgeon needs to have a look at it and what the problem is and whether it can be resurrected." Jones, named Scarlets skipper this season, has largely been absent amid a disappointing season for the west Wales region. But he was on hand to witness their nine-try demolition of Connacht in Sunday's Magners League clash that ended 58-10 to the hosts at Parc y Scarlets.
