Welsh region the Ospreys play in the Magners League

The Ospreys are set to launch a joint initiative with London Welsh, who play in English rugby's second tier.

The teams have signed a heads of agreement aimed at sharing as-yet unspecified "expertise and resources".

The deal has led to speculation the Ospreys will loan players to London Welsh as they target a place in the Guinness Premiership.

An Ospreys statement read: "It is clear that an ongoing partnership will prove mutually beneficial."

London Welsh have been hit by financial worries this season, but remain hopeful of gaining promotion to English rugby's top flight in the future.

The statement read: "The Ospreys have signed a heads of agreement that could see the two organisations sharing expertise and resources in the future.

"London Welsh have enjoyed a successful season in the Championship, and harbour realistic ambitions of achieving Guinness Premiership status in the coming seasons."
