Matthew Rees hopes to avoid surgery |
Wales and Scarlets hooker Matthew Rees has targeted the 26 February Millennium Stadium Test against France for his international comeback from injury. "I hope to return to training next week, I haven't ruled the Six Nations out," he told the Scrum V Radio show. The British and Irish Lions Test star has missed the start of the Six Nations with a groin injury that he picked up in Wales' November defeat to Australia. He returned for the Scarlets last month, but the injury flared up again. Rees hopes to avoid surgery at this stage, but that could be the option if the problem persists. | 606: DEBATE |
The Scarlets face Leinster in Dublin on 20 February, Rees' only chance of regional rugby before the France game. Blues hooker Gareth Williams took Rees' number two jersey for Wales' opening Six Nations defeat to England last Saturday. His line-out throwing was heavily criticised as Wales' set piece struggled, but Williams has retained his place for Saturday's game against Scotland in Cardiff.
