Parks qualifies to play for Scotland through his grandmother |
Glasgow coach Sean Lineen has refused to comment on Dan Parks' expected move to Cardiff Blues but says the Scottish club are preparing a statement. BBC Wales on Tuesday disclosed that the Scotland fly-half had reached a deal with the region. The Blues have refused to confirm or deny that Australian-born Parks, 31, will join at the start of next season. Lineen, though, said: "I think there will be a statement coming out in the near future." The Glasgow coach stressed that his attention was being paid to his side's Magners League top-of-the-table match against Edinburgh on Sunday. Parks, who has won 47 caps, has made 101 appearances for Glasgow in six years and is five points short of becoming the first player to reach 1,000 Magners League points. | 606: DEBATE |
The Blues' first-choice fly-half Sam Norton-Knight has struggled to make an impact since arriving in the summer. Norton-Knight was brought in as a replacement for Nicky Robinson, who left for Guinness Premiership side Gloucester. But he has played most of his professional rugby in Australia at full-back and his performances following the switch to fly-half brought much criticism in his direction. Parks is seen as a more solid figure in that position, but is not without controversy himself. Despite winning 47 caps for Scotland, after qualifying through his grandmother, not all Scottish fans have been happy with his selection, claiming he has under-performed on occasions. He was also left out by coach Andy Robinson for the autumn internationals. Scottish Rugby, which finances Glasgow Warriors, said it would not comment on what its spokesman described as "rumour and speculation".
