Dai Young expects the Blues' injured trio to be fit for the rematch |
Cardiff Blues boss Dai Young says his side deserved their 15-9 Heineken Cup win over Toulouse and that the scoreline flattered the French side. He now wants more of the same in the return leg on Saturday in Toulouse. Young said: "I'm really pleased. I thought the win flattered them a little bit, to be honest." The Blues expect injured trio Tom Shanklin (eye), Gareth Williams (cramp) and Sam Norton-Knight (back strain) to be fit to face Toulouse again. The Blues' points came from four Ben Blair penalties and another from wing Leigh Halfpenny as they followed up last season's 9-6 quarter-final win over Toulouse with another tense triumph. Young added: "I thought we were by far the better team, but then again, that's pretty much our story of the season. | 606: DEBATE |
"Going into the last five minutes it's a game that could have gone either way. "But I thought we thoroughly deserved to win that game and I'm really proud of the players. "It was a win based on defence. There are a couple of things we can improve on and that's pleasing because if we'd played our best game going out to Toulouse could have been a little bit of a worry. "But I still think there's a lot more to come from us. But certainly our attitude and commitment to each other was outstanding. "We knew that they would try to play rugby from all areas and we talked all week about keeping that pressure on them, keep hunting that mistake and working for each other and in the end I thought that was the difference." | There's no reason why we shouldn't go out to France with a lot of confidence and a lot of belief |
Young says the Blues must maintain their discipline in the face of Toulouse's expected onslaught next weekend. "You've got to be squeaky clean in this competition because if you look at any team in it, they've all got really good kickers who can punish you. "The good thing from my point of view is there are still big areas we can improve on and there's no reason why we shouldn't go out to France with a lot of confidence and a lot of belief." Of the walking wounded, Young said: "Tom's got an eye injury and I don't think that's going to be too bad. "Gareth Williams' was cramp and the work he did I think you can understand that. "But Sam Norton-Knight's back tightened up, but I don't think they're major injuries. One or two days proper rest and they'll recover."
