Gatland's Wales have lost to both New Zealand and Australia in November |
Wales plan to play South Africa in Cardiff on 5 June and New Zealand Maori down under on 12 June as they seek more southern hemisphere opposition. Those proposed ties will be followed by confirmed Tests against the All Blacks in New Zealand on 19 and 26 June. Wales coach Warren Gatland revealed the plans on Sunday, saying that his side will not shy away from facing the best southern hemisphere teams. "We are not trying to run away or hide," he told the Scrum V programme. "We want to play the best in the world, it's all about building, developing and hopefully peaking for the Rugby World Cup in 2011." | Rugby Union Blog |
Wales have endured an ultimately disappointing autumn against southern hemisphere sides. A predictable reversal against New Zealand was followed by a narrow win over Samoa and a more convincing victory over Argentina. But Wales collapsed to a 12-33 Millennium Stadium defeat against a far-superior Australia side on Saturday, the Wallabies seeming to have taken the game to another level. Wales have promised a complete review of their game plan ahead of the Six Nations.
