Dan Biggar won his fourth cap for Wales in the win against Samoa |
Dan Biggar admits it took longer than expected to pick himself up after his pass gifted Samoa a try in Wales narrow 17-13 win at the Millennium Stadium. The Ospreys fly-half was trying to pick out Tom James but Seilala Mapusua intercepted for an 80m run-in as the visitors fought back from 17-6 down. "I probably should have got over it a lot quicker," said 20-year-old Biggar. "With a couple more years under my belt and experience I would have got over it straight away." Biggar, who is hoping to challenge Stephen Jones for the number 10 Wales jersey, made a stunning start with his superb cross-kick setting up Leigh Halfpenny for an early try. But his game management came under scrutiny followed by the 62nd minute pass that allowed the Samons back in. "Personally I felt the game went well apart from the five-minute period after that interception when I had to pick myself back up again," said Biggar. "We had the game under control but then there was the interception and they are right back in the game with their tails lifted. "I'm generally quite a positive person and pick myself up and I knew it was no good moping around the pitch as it's not helping any of the boys. Samoa's sensational try against Wales "We had to dig deep for the last quarter-of-an-hour, but to be fair the boys dug in exceptionally well." Wales face Argentina in the third Test next Saturday and Biggar is hoping to get the nod ahead of Stephen Jones at 10, a position he is hoping to take permanently. But four-cap Biggar admits he will have to be patient to become first choice fly-half. "It's difficult because Steve is in pole position at the moment," he added. "If I can be involved in the next couple of games, get more experience and a couple more caps it will be great for me. "It's a long term aim for me to replace Stephen Jones. "Hopefully I can do that in the next few years, but I'm at the start, I'm still learning and picking things up from the coaches and senior players."
