The Ospreys made a flying start with three early tries

Ospreys found form before the Heineken Cup with a first home win against early season league leaders Edinburgh.

Tommy Bowe, Ryan Jones and Lee Byrne scored tries in the first half hour as the Ospreys scorched into a 24-3 lead against a weakened Edinburgh outfit.

Injuries to Duncan Jones, Bowe and Byrne disrupted the charge and Tim Visser's try gave the visitors hope.

Ospreys weathered the storm, a Jonathan Thomas interception try from David Blair securing the bonus point.

The visitors went ahead with a Phil Godman penalty, quickly cancelled out by a Dan Biggar kick after Scotland international wing Nikki Walker helped spark an Ospreys attack.

606: DEBATE

The inclusion of Walker and Shane Williams on the wings meant Bowe moved to centre alongside James Hook, forming an exciting if somewhat-lightweight midfield.

The new centre pairing combined delightfully off good line-out ball, Hook feinting passes to an array of dummy runners before popping the ball to fellow-Lion Bowe.

Edinburgh inside centre John Houston was left grasping at air as Bowe sprinted home for a converted score.

Fly-half Biggar then chipped over the top of the visitors' defence, Hook gathering and seeing the ball quickly recycled.

Mike Phillips fired out a long pass, picked up by man-of-the-match Ryan Jones on the gallop, the captain powering through the gap for the second converted try of the match.

Edinburgh number eight Allister Hogg was sin-binned for going offside at a ruck as the pressure increased, and another complex midfield move bamboozled the defence.

Walker drove through the cover and off-loaded to full-back Byrne who went over for a fine score.

Duncan Jones (groin) and Bowe (hamstring) were taken off as precautions ahead of the Heineken Cup, Jones' injury thought to be the most worrying.

After the disruption the Scots rallied, Geoff Cross driving over from close range only to be held up off the ground, the video referee awarding a scrum five.

Humphreys' warning for Ospreys

With the last move of the half Mike Blair quickly spun the scrum ball to the left wing where Visser hurdled over a poor Williams tackle for a converted score.

The Ospreys' wobble continued after the break, Phillips sin-binned for a trip on opposite-number Blair as the scrum-half took a quick penalty.

A Biggar penalty hit the post, and the Ospreys' injury worries increased as Byrne hobbled off with an ankle injury, although it was not the same ankle that ended his Lions tour early last summer.

Walker was denied a superb try after a forward pass from Byrne's replacement Gareth Owen and the home side had to soak up more pressure before clinching the bonus point.

Thomas enjoyed comeback try

That came from a horribly telegraphed David Blair pass on the halfway line, Thomas plucking off the ball before cantering home.

The closing 20 minutes proved nondescript, both teams placing their eyes firmly on next week's European matches.

The result ended a run of four successive victories on the road for Edinburgh, who will be looking to recover their away form for Saturday's daunting Heineken Cup trip to Stade Francais.

The Ospreys will hope for more consistency when they travel to Leicester on Sunday for their growing grudge match with the Tigers.

Ospreys assistant coach Jonathan Humphreys:
"It was very pleasing to get a bonus-point win at home.

Moffat bemoans naive Edinbugh

"But we're very realistic. We started extremely well and then were disappointed with the middle of the game.

"It was very pleasing to see some of the things we have been working on coming through. Things are going the right way."

Edinburgh coach Rob Moffat:
"The Ospreys played well and looked sharp.

"We gifted them maybe three tries and you can't do that against a quality side.

"We looked a bit naive in defence and were a yard off the pace.

"It was a disappointing day, but we'll move on for the Heineken Cup next week."
