Scarlets chairman Huw Evans says Sergeant has a proven track record |
The Scarlets have appointed former Millennium Stadium boss Paul Sergeant to succeed Stuart Gallacher as chief executive. Sergeant joins after a season of poor results and crowds at Parc y Scarlets after they moved there in November. Sergeant was Millennium Stadium chief for three and a half years until 2006, moving to Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium. In August he will rejoin ex-Welsh Rugby Union official Rupert Moon who recently became Scarlets commercial director. A Scarlets statement read: "His [Sergeant's] links with rugby and experience in stadium management and operations stretch back more than 27 years. "This includes the delivery of more than 3,000 major events. "At the Millennium Stadium, Paul was widely recognised as playing a major role in changing the face of the WRU and bringing the organisation and its world-class stadium into a record profit era. | 606: DEBATE |
"During his time in Cardiff he was recognised with an OBE for services to business." Sergeant said: "It's a great honour and thrill for me to be joining the Scarlets at such an exciting point in their growth and development. "The Scarlets are a rugby region with great tradition and a rich heritage are rightly known around the world for playing rugby with flair and passion. "I am very excited about the challenge of taking the Scarlets business forward in a magnificent new stadium and with such a passionate support base, the region has all it needs to build a highly successful future. "I can't wait to help them achieve that goal and becoming part of the famous Scarlets rugby community. "I will be leading a strong and experienced management team which will shape the future of the Scarlets and... I look forward to working alongside Nigel Davies and Gareth Jenkins who will continue to oversee and develop the Scarlets' rugby operation. "Wales is like a second home to me and my family and so it was an easy decision to come back and I look forward to leading this famous rugby region forward into a new era." Scarlets chairman Huw Evans said: "We built the finest rugby stadium in Europe, now we have one of the world's best rugby stadium specialists to lead us forward and run it."
