Scrum-half prospect Tavis Knoyle has joined the Scarlets on a two-year deal.

"I am as excited about Tavis as I was about Dwayne Peel and Mike Phillips at 18," said Scarlets coach Nigel Davies

The 18-year-old from Pontneddfechan was wanted by the Ospreys regional set up, and it is understood Leicester and Harlequins were also interested in him.

Knoyle, who played his youth rugby for Glynneath, starred for Wales Under-20 this season, having also represented his country at U18 and U16 levels.

"He shows the signs of exceptional ability," said Davies.

"Bringing him to the Scarlets shows our ongoing commitment to grow an exciting and talented group of young Welsh players.

"They will not only be future Scarlets stars but, we hope, will be great prospects for Wales at senior international level."

On joining the Scarlets, Knoyle said: "This is a great opportunity for me and I am really excited about joining such a passionate club.

"I have had a great season with Neath and thank the club and its supporters for all they have done for me as I move on."

"We have agreed his release from us as he had a year to run on his contract here at Neath.

"Without doubt, he wanted to join the Scarlets and we are not in the business of holding any player back.

"Our record in producing top players is second to none and we look forward to seeing Tavis progress well in the future."
