Brynmor Williams in action for Wales in the late 1970s
Wales are not developing as much talent as they should, according to former scrum-half Brynmor Williams.
Williams, who played for the Lions before winning a Wales cap in the late 1970s, hit out after Andy Williams withdrawl from the South Africa tour.
He said: "My big worry with Welsh rugby is when you get an injury crisis like this, there doesn't seem to be an automatic person to step in.
"We are very low in numbers in many positions, not only scrum-halves."
Andy Williams' withdrawal leaves uncapped Warren Fury of London Irish as back up to Gloucester's Gareth Cooper, although Shane Williams could also be used at scrum-half.
"I hope that Cooper and Fury will do a cracking job and I'm sure they will, but they are up against it because of their limited game time experience this season," he added.
Coach Warren Gatland is already without a number of key players for the tour.
Grand Slam heroes Martyn Williams, Lee Byrne, Gavin Henson, Mike Phillips, Dwayne Peel, Huw Bennet and Alix Popham are all out.
