Naas Botha says Wales destroyed their Six Nations opponents |
Springbok legend Naas Botha believes Grand Slam-winners Wales' summer tour to South Africa promises to be among the best of the last 10 years. The fly-half hero says Wales will pose a challenge to the world champions. Botha said: "It is one of the better times to tour South Africa, for once I believe Wales are going to bring a team that's not going to look for excuses. "We've won the World Cup, but that doesn't mean we are going to beat Wales as it is a new ball-game now." | 606: DEBATE |
Botha was impressed with Warren Gatland's revolution in the new Wales coach's first campaign. "What an eye-opener Wales were in the Six Nation," Botha told BBC Wales' Scrum V programme. "It just shows you anything is possible. For me the way they played was far more important than anything else. "They actually believe that after winning the Six Nations they can come and beat us "So there is definitely something special in this tour that we haven't seen for a number of years - it's going to be one of the best for 10 years." "I would like to see the 15 best players of South Africa run on to the field to play the 15 best from Wales. Botha believes Gatland's revival can continue their revival as Wales go in search of a historic first victory against South Africa on their soil. "They played a nice brand of rugby in the Six Nations and in a way, they destroyed the opposition. "That didn't always happen in the first-half, but the game is not 40 minutes, it's 80 and the one thing they've done is they were one of the few teams that could stick it out for 80 minutes."
