Martyn Williams has vowed never to say never again as an international retirement U-turn allows him to bid for his second Grand Slam.

The Wales flanker admits quitting Test rugby after the World Cup was "rash".

"I won't be retiring again, I'm here for as long as Wales want me," he told the Sport Wales TV show ahead of Saturday's Grand Slam date with France.

"There've been times when I've thought I might have missed out on this and how frustrating that would've been."

Williams' change of heart came when Gatland called him in January and the Cardiff Blues star is now contemplating a possible second Grand Slam to add to the one he played a major part in 2005.

If I hadn't had that phone call from Warren I wouldn't be here with a Grand Slam decider around the corner

Williams, 32, said: "In January I didn't really expect to be involved and when you're then in the middle of something you don't appreciate what's going on outside.

"If I hadn't had that phone call from Warren I wouldn't be here with a Grand Slam decider around the corner.

"I was very privileged and lucky to have that call and just to be part of what's turned out to be a special team.

"I'm so pleased I changed my mind and everything's gone so well so far.

"In 2005 it was probably the end of three years of hard work and the culmination of such a long journey to try to get success.

"This has been much more immediate, within six or seven weeks. A new coaching set-up has come in and we've had instant success.

"It feels very different in that perspective, but a lot of the players were here in 2005 and it's just great that all the hard work we've put in over the last few years has put us in that position.

"Everything's a bit of a blur because you don't really have time to sit back and reflect on your victories because you're busy preparing for the next game.

"That's pretty much how it's been. It's been a hectic seven or eight weeks, but so far we've reaped the benefits."

Sport Wales is on Thursday on BBC Two Wales and 2W at 2200 GMT.
