Canada fire Wales Cup warning
Canada coach Ric Suggitt
Suggitt says the Cardiff loss was a learning experience
Coach Ric Suggitt insists Canada can defeat Wales at the World Cup next year, despite a 61-26 loss in Cardiff.

"We will beat Wales, that's what we are going to the World Cup for," said Suggitt, the teams opening their World Cup campaigns in Nantes on 9 September.

"It's a realistic aim and that's what we are building towards.

"This was a good experience for our guys, I asked them to be bold and throw caution to the wind, and when that happens mistakes can be made."

Canada high performance director Geraint John also felt there were positives to take from the defeat.

The team showed naivety at times, and that cost us a lot of points

"We were pleased with the way we played with ball in hand and that we showed the heart and desire to go to the end," John, a former Cardiff Blues assistant coach, told BBC Sport Wales.

"We made three clean line breaks but were not quick enough to get the support there.

"It was disappointing to lose - people may have expected it, but we trained to win.

"The team showed naivety at times, and that cost us a lot of points.

"We have to build on this performance next week against Italy, and take the improvements through to the World Cup."
