Robert Jones won 54 caps for Wales at scrum-half

Jones joins another former Swansea man, dual-code international Paul Moriarty, as the immediate back-up team to new director of rugby Phil Davies.

Moriarty will concentrate on defensive skills, but will also have input along with Davies among the forwards.

"I am extremely pleased with the characteristics of the coaching group here at Stradey Park," Davies said.

"I feel that it is important to have quality coaches in place right throughout the regional structure, from Academy and WRU skills coaches to the first XV team coaches.

"It is my intention to call upon the expertise of all members of the regional coaching group to deliver coaching sessions throughout the season."

Jones, 40, was a star of the 1989 Lions tour to Australia and won 54 Wales caps.

Wayne Procter continues the role he started under former Scarlets director of rugby Gareth Jenkins, overseeing the fitness and conditioning of the first XV.

Jenkins left Stradey for the Wales job, taking right-hand man Nigel Davies with him into the international set-up.

Ex-Wales and Lions hooker Robin McBryde will also continue his coaching involvement with the Scarlets, looking mainly at the scrummage, but may also be required by the Wales management.

Davies, alongside Scarlets chief executive Stuart Gallacher, will take over the responsibility of player recruitment and management.
