Duncan Jones will lead from the front for the Ospreys |
Duncan Jones has been named as the Ospreys captain for next season. The loose-head prop, who skippered Wales on their tour to Argentina, takes over from hooker Barry Williams who stepped down at the end of last season.
"It is an honour to be asked to captain the Ospreys, although I am fortunate to have already stood in last year following Barry's injury," Jones said.
"We have a mix of youth and experience and I will get a lot of help as we have decision-makers throughout the side."
The Ospreys are expecting great things after a disappointing season where they lost their Celtic League crown.
 | Duncan led Wales with distinction in Argentina |
The likes of All Blacks Justin Marshall and Jono Gibbes have been signed in the off-season, with Wales pair Lee Byrne and Tal Selley also arriving at the Liberty Stadium from Llanelli Scarlets.
With Wales tyro James Hook stepping up from Neath and Lions Ryan Jones, Brent Cockbain and Gavin Henson likely to be fit after injury-ravaged seasons, the squad looks good.
"The region has shown its ambition with strong signings and with the boys returning from long-term injury I am sure supporters will see a strong Ospreys side next season," Jones added.
"Last year we worked hard as a group and things started to come together towards the end of the year, but we will enter next season in a confident frame of mind."
Head coach Lyn Jones says that 28-cap Jones is the ideal candidate to lead the Ospreys.
"We decided some time ago that Duncan was the man to lead us into what will be a big season for the Ospreys," coach Jones said.
"He led Wales with distinction in Argentina and has already proven to be a fine Ospreys captain when he stepped up last season.
"He leads by example both on and off the field, knows how to read a game, has sound judgement and has respect throughout the squad."
