Gavin Henson has been given the Ospreys' full backing |
Ospreys team manager Derwyn Jones has backed the withdrawal of centre Gavin Henson from Wales' tour to Argentina. Henson, whose season has been marred by injury and suspension, says he is too slow and underweight for Test rugby.
"It's a wise decision that's been taken with the Wales management, looking at Gavin's fitness," Jones said.
"We're very pleased with the commonsense shown - Gareth Jenkins has just become Wales coach and is showing a great deal of empathy for players."
Henson will now concentrate on a full pre-season training program, in common with 17 other capped players left out due to injury or rehabilitation.
"Once Gavin has had his chance to do a full pre-season training, then Gareth will be rewarded by his performances next season," Jones added.
"The players will get a month of active recovery and then they're into three months of pre-season training where they're training up to three times a day.
"It's a very intense period and the reason is so they can last the season at a reasonable level."
