Jonah Lomu's stay in Wales is nearly over

The former New Zealand wing has played his last match for the Welsh region after breaking his ankle last week.

Although Lomu has played just 10 matches since arriving last September, Edwards says his effect has been huge.

"Jonah has contributed extremely well to the Blues not just on the field of play but off it as well - he has been a great ambassador," Edwards said.

"He has been excellent for the youngsters, he's shown the standards that are required for these boys to reach the heights.

"Jonah has shown a very professional attitude in everything he's done and there's no doubt the younger members - and some of the older members - have learnt a great deal."

Despite another injury set-back, following a kidney replacement and major shoulder surgery, Edwards believes Lomu is on the path back to the heights he once scaled at Test level.

Next month Lomu will return to New Zealand to continue his career with North Harbour in the NPC, having completed his seven-month contract at the Arms Park.

"We'd have loved to have seen him play another few games and finishing on his own terms," Edwards, a director at the Welsh region, added.

"But maybe he's proven to himself that there is still a future for him in the game."
