Scarlets recruit wants Lions link
Wales and Lions scrum-half Dwayne Peel will be the standard Clive Stuart-Smith measures himself against
Llanelli Scarlets newcomer Clive Stuart-Smith hopes some Lions magic will rub off on him at Stradey Park.

The 22-year-old will compete with latest Lions scrum-half Dwayne Peel, while Robert Jones - a tourist in 1989 and 1993 - is on the coaching staff.

"Wales has bred some outstanding scrum-halves - from Gareth Edwards to Dwayne Peel," Stuart-Smith said.

"And with the addition of Robert Jones to the coaching squad this season I couldn't have timed it better."

Peel is recovering from a broken bone in his left hand sustained in the Lions' third Test defeat to New Zealand, giving Stuart-Smith a chance to make an early claim.

He will have his first chance to impress against his former club Worcester Warriors in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, 20 August.

"Ironically the Worcester fixture will be my first competitive game at Stradey, but I will be treating it as any other," Stuart-Smith told the Scarlets' official website.

"I know that this will be my opportunity to prove myself to the boys and grow as part of the team, but also to prove myself to the home crowds at Stradey and I'm really looking forward to it.

"I will be looking to put a lot of pressure on Dwayne for the starting position - it's a huge challenge but it is not something I will shy away from.

"I'm looking forward to working with him and learning everything I can from him to improve my game."
