Van Rensburg has also played for Neath and Bridgend |
Shawn van Rensburg has re-joined Newport Gwent Dragons after brief spells with Coventry and Toulon. The 31-year-old back-rower will provide cover for the injured Richard Bryan and Michael Owen, who will be away on Wales duty during the Six Nations.
Dragons manager Jim McCreedy said: "Shawn is a proven performer and has extensive experience of playing in the Celtic League."
Van Rensburg has signed a deal at Newport until the end of the season.
The South African was released by the Dragons after their inaugural season in 2004 and joined English Division One side Coventry.
But he played just three games for the Midlands club and went on to join Toulon at the start of this season.
He left France in December to return to Wales, where he is based, after the birth of his daughter.
