Llanelli Scarlets have signed New Zealander prop Craig Dunlea until the end of the season to cover injuries.

The 29-year-old is currently playing his rugby for Otago, but spent the 2002/03 season with Border Reivers.

Scarlets chief executive Stuart Gallacher said: "Craig is joining us on a short-term contract until the end of the season.

"We need the cover with Iestyn Thomas and Phil John out of action for another couple of months yet."

Dunlea played in the Otago side that lost 19-30 to the British and Irish Lions team in Carlsbrook last summer.

At the same time, the Scarlets and Dave Duley have mutually agreed the early termination of his contract with immediate effect.

The former Waikato Chiefs second row joined in December 2004, but has made just five appearances for the regional side since, although he has been a key player for feeder side Llanelli RFC.
