Appleyard has nine Wales caps to his name |
Former Wales, Swansea, Sale and Cardiff flanker Rob Appleyard has joined the Neath-Swansea Ospreys as defence coach. The 32-year-old takes over from Rowland Phillips, who will be free to concentrate full-time on his role as head coach at Neath RFC.
Appleyard, capped nine times in 1997-98, has signed a three-year deal.
"Rob understands what rugby here is all about and has impressed us with his understanding of the modern game," said Ospreys regional manager Derwyn Jones.
"He comes highly recommended by the Welsh Rugby Union and [Wales defence coach] Clive Griffiths in particular.
"We now have a coaching and management structure that should allow [head coach] Lyn Jones and the coaching staff to realise the potential of what is one of the most talented squads in Europe."
