The new facility will be a big help to Blues coach Dai Young |
Cardiff Blues have opened up their new Hensol base in the Vale of Glamorgan, including a training field and gym. The facility will save the squad from moving around the capital between the university playing fields, a private leisure centre and the Arms Park.
Chairman Peter Thomas says they have ambitions to take the region to the top of Europe after three appalling years.
Meanwhile, Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips will make his Blues debut in Friday's friendly at Bristol.
Wales tourists Craig Morgan and Robin Sowden-Taylor also start, with Nicky Robinson, Rob Sidoli and Rhys Thomas featuring on the bench.
John Yapp is rested for a further week, while Lions Gethin Jenkins, Martyn Williams and Tom Shanklin will not play until October.
Jamie Robinson, Marc Stcherbina, and Kort Schubert are all missing for the opening weeks of the season through injury.
The Blues have given a regional contract to Cardiff RFC prop Nathan Llewellyn.
