Cardiff Blues have signed centre Marc Stcherbina from Northampton Saints on a two-year contract. The Australian-born player appeared in all 29 games for the Saints last season and was previously at Biarritz.
Cardiff coach Dai Young said: "Marc is an excellent acquisition for us, one of the best and most consistent performers in the Zurich Premiership last season.
"We have had to fight off stiff competition from a number of other clubs to capture his signature."
Premier Rugby and Rugby Football Union rules allow English teams to field just one overseas player during a league match.
With New Zealand fly-half Carlos Spencer having arrived at Franklin's Gardens, that meant Stcherbina was likely to spend much of next season on the bench.
Stcherbina, 28, began his senior career playing for the Super 12 outfit NSW Waratahs, as well as representing Australia A and Australia Sevens.
Cardiff chief executive Robert Norster said: "We look forward to welcoming Marc to the Arms Park as a proven and consistent performer at the highest level.
"He is an ideal addition to our regional team, bringing as he does such experience and guile that will enhance the growing quality and strength of the squad."
