Boobyer's footwork left Nathan Budgett's head streaming with blood |
Llanelli Scarlets have suspended Ian Boobyer until the start of the new year after finding him guilty of foul play. Flanker Boobyer was lucky to escape a red card for stamping on the Blues' Nathan Budgett in Sunday's Celtic League defeat at the Arms Park.
Rather than citing Boobyer themselves, the Blues asked the Scarlets to take their own action against the player.
Said Scarlets chief executive Stuart Gallacher: "We cannot condone what happened and have acted accordingly."
Boobyer has also been fined by the Scarlets and banned from playing for Llanelli's semi-professional club side for the duration of his suspension.
Blues chief executive Robert Norster praised the Scarlets' decision, saying: "Coaches and officials from both teams discussed at length the incident that was not witnessed by the referee and touch judges before establishing agreement on the measures now taken by the Scarlets' management."
Despite the nasty injury, Budgett will be available for selection of the Blues' Celtic League match at home to Glasgow on Saturday.
