Wales' new boy Luke Charteris was surprised at his call-up to the national squad this week - having not played any regional rugby this season. "I was shocked but very happy," the 21 year-old, 6'9" lock told BBC Sport.
"It's nice that (Wales coach) Mike Ruddock has faith in me, it's a chance to step up a level and stake a place for the Six Nations and beyond.
"I know I have to get in the Dragons regional side to play for Wales, but there are three locks ahead of me."

Charteris added: "[Dragons second rows] Michael Owen, Peter Sidoli and Ian Gough are great players, I'm learning a lot from them." Ruddock is aware of the capabilities of the west Wales player from his time as coach of the Dragons.
He considered taking Charteris on Wales' summer tour, but decided the youngster's time would be better spent working on his physique.
"I've been working closely with [Wales fitness coach] Andrew Hore," said Charteris.
"I had a big pre-season with a lot of weight training that helped me put on half a stone whilst improving my fitness and speed."
Wales are set to reap the long-term benefits of Charteris' development, who is set to become the country's tallest player since Derwyn Jones.
