Stars set for Jenkins bow
Jason Leonard and Neil Jenkins are old sparring partners

World record Test points scorer Neil Jenkins will end his playing career with a star-studded testimonial match at the Millennium Stadium on 6 June.

Ex-Wales fly-half Jenkins will captain his side against one led by England prop Jason Leonard, who holds the world record for Test appearances.

"It promises to be a pretty emotional ending to my career," said Jenkins.

"It is a great honour to be given the chance to play a testimonial match at the Millennium Stadium."

The 32-year-old Celtic Warriors fly-half scored 1090 Test points during a memorable international career with Wales and the Lions.

Jenkins' side will feature predominantly Welsh players, while old rival Leonard will lead out an English-based team - with a few international stars sprinkled around.

Wasps scrum-half Rob Howley has signed up for the chance to partner his long standing half-back partner one more time.

The likes of Scott Gibbs and Scott Quinnell will ensure that the 'fun' match is taken seriously when it comes down to winning.

"It is not going to be a run around for the old boys - it is going to be a serious match," Jenkins added.

"How could you ask Scott Gibbs and Scott Quinnell to play against Jason Leonard and a team wearing white shirts not to take it seriously!

This won't be a match either of us will want to lose

John Davies, Garin Jenkins, Chris Wyatt, Emyr Lewis and Allan Bateman have also agreed to play for the Wales side.

Leonard will have players of the calibre of Dorian West, Darren Garforth, Neil Back, Nick Beal and Jon Sleightholme.

"It is a huge honour for me to be able to raise a side to bring to Cardiff, one of the rugby capitals of the world, to play against a Neil Jenkins XV," Leonard, who has 114 caps for England and a world record 118 Test appearances overall, said.

"Although we've been big rivals down the years, I've got to know Neil very well on two Lions tours and we are also good friends. He's a legend in Wales, but also way beyond that.

"I'm sure we're all going to have a fun weekend, but this won't be a match either of us will want to lose."

International stars Andre Vos, Kenny Logan, John Leslie and Paul Burke are also in line to make guest appearances.

Neil Jenkins XV: Kenny Logan; Justin Thomas, Allan Bateman, Scott Gibbs, Richard Mustoe; Neil Jenkins, Rob Howley; John Davies, Garin Jenkins, Ben Evans, Steve Williams, Chris Wyatt, Emyr Lewis, Brett Sinkinson, Scott Quinnell.

Jason Leonard XV: Matt Perry; Nick Beal, Nick Greenstock, John Leslie, Jon Sleightholme; Paul Burke, James Grindall; Jason Leonard, Dorian West, Darren Garforth, Alex Codling, Billy Davison, Kingsley Jones, Neil Back, Andre Vos.
