Keith Rowlands has beaten David East in the race to succeed Sir Tasker Watkins as Welsh Rugby Union president. Rowlands, 68, is a former Wales and Lions lock who played club rugby with Cardiff, Llanelli and London Welsh.
He was coach and administrator at Cardiff and sat on the WRU committee.
The Aberaman man was the International Rugby Board's first chief executive (1988-96) and a director of Rugby World Cup, overseeing the 1999 tournament in Wales.
