Davies has won 21 caps for Wales |
Wales hooker Mefin Davies has signed for Welsh Premiership side Neath. The 31-year-old was snubbed by the four Welsh regions after the demise of the Celtic Warriors regional team left him without a professional contract.
Davies was close to signing a two-year deal with Stade Francais in July, but turned down the offer since it would have ended of his international career.
Pontypridd were also keen to sign their former favourite, but Neath confirmed Davies' signing on Friday.
Wales team manager Alan Phillips said it was imperative for Davies to play regular rugby to have any chance of keeping his place in the Wales squad for the November internationals.
"Whist it's not ideal because he's not in one of the top four sides, it's a start," Phillips told BBC Sport. "But Mefin trains very hard and is a top professional. We've got no qualms about him there.
"Obviously there will be some questions about the standard and level of competitive games he's playing in."
