The Blues ran in nine tries in a club-record score as they exacted vengeance at Cardiff Arms Park for a shock loss to the Borders in September. Leading the way was new captain Jamie Robinson with four tries.
The best score came from Tom Shanklin, a rival to Robinson for the Wales centre spot, who ran 60 yards and regathered his own kick for a fine try.
The outclassed Borders got a Craig Moir try and three kicks from Gareth Morton, but were scoreless in the second half.
Despite an early penalty from halfway by Borders full-back Morton, the Blues soon showed their intentions with some superb inter-passing, ending with Robinson cutting in to score his first.
After another Morton kick, the younger Robinson, Nicky, took his turn, following a strong run by Shanklin. The Borders cut the deficit to a single point when left wing Moir steamrollered full-back Craig Morgan to go over, Morton converting.
But the Blues turned to their pack for a change and lively lock Jim Brownrigg was driven over for their third try.

The Scots then lost skipper Kevin Utterson, harshly sin-binned for knocking down a try-scoring pass, and the home side capitalised with two more tries before the break, scored by Jonny Vaughton and Shanklin. The one-way traffic continued in the second period, with Jamie Robinson running in three more tries before he and brother Nicky, who landed six conversions out of eight, departed the scene.

With them went the Blues' cutting edge, but the forwards still created one final touchdown for Craig Quinnell, converted by fellow replacement Nick Macleod. "Jamie Robinson was excellent, he led the team well and was individually outstanding - as was Tom Shanklin," said Blues coach Dai Young.
"I'd like to see both of them get the nod for Wales."
