Jenkins can now concentrate on leading the Scarlets |
Gareth Jenkins will never fulfil his dream of coaching Wales, says Scarlets chief executive Stuart Gallacher. The Scarlets coach was a front runner to succeed Steve Hansen, but lost out to surprise choice Mike Ruddock.
"The WRU has missed a great opportunity to give the post to probably the most passionate and experienced coach in Wales," Gallacher told BBC Wales Sport.
"Perhaps it's now gone from Gareth's grasp forever. We are shocked and dismayed by the whole process."
Gallacher insisted he has no complaints over Ruddock's appointment, but he feels that Jenkins has been publicly humiliated by the WRU's snub.
"Mike Ruddock didn't originally apply for the job," Gallacher added.
"Gareth Jenkins went through the process of applying, did a two hour presentation, which we understand was very well received, went back for another interview, again which was well received.
"He was then encouraged just yesterday to meet with Scott Johnson to discuss perhaps ways forward regarding his involvement. "So we are desperately unhappy with the process. I don't think the WRU have come out of this with any pluses.
"But there we are, the panel of five have made their decision. For whatever reason they decided Gareth Jenkins wasn't good enough to do the job, which I find quite amazing."
Gallacher said the only consolation from Jenkins' unsuccessful application is that the club has been spared the unenviable task of finding his successor at Stradey Park.
He stressed all the players and staff will now be even more determined to win the Heineken Cup for Jenkins.
"We'll be fired up to finish this season with a bang."
