Leighton Samuel wants to build a new stadium for the Warriors |
Celtic Warriors owner Leighton Samuel has called off the region's proposed merger with the Blues. Samuel said the opposition to the plan from the Blues' largest shareholder has put an end to any possible partnership.
"I didn't realise the constitution of the Blues was as complicated as it is in terms of the shareholding," Samuel told BBC Sport.
"We'd need longer than the four or five months we've got to sort it all out for next season."
Supporters of both regions immediately voiced their opposition to the plan when it was announcement by Blues chairman Peter Thomas last week.
Financial difficulties at the Blues had prompted Thomas to seek out a partnership with the Warriors.
But his vision took a severe blow on Monday when the Blues' largest shareholder, Cardiff Athletic Club (CAC), said it was against the merger.
And as owners of the Arms Park, the CAC said it would not allow the merged side to play at the ground.
The possibility of using the Arms Park - which has far superior corporate facilities than the Warriors' Brewery Field home - was one of the main incentives for Samuel to contemplate a partnership.
Samuel said he now intends to re-open previous plans to build a new stadium for the Warriors. Sites in Treforest and Llantrisant have already been look at.
In the short term, Samuel wants to concentrate on making the Warriors a success in Bridgend.
But the millionaire backer has warned the Warriors face going into administration unless average attendances at the Brewery Field rise above the current 2000 mark.
Samuel bridges the estimated 40,000 deficit in income and expenditure, but said he is not prepared to do that indefinitely.
