Supporters are being urged to get behind Pontypridd |
Ponty Rugby Ltd has purchased the interests of Pontypridd RFC and the lease of the club's Sardis Road ground. Supporters are being urged to buy shares in the new company in a bid to get the club back on a firm financial footing.
Pontypridd RFC entered administration at the beginning of this month with debts of 670,000 and were forced to sell their share in the Celtic Warriors to regional partners Bridgend.
The new company's first priority is to confirm the club's status as a premier club, but they will also consider their role with the Warriors.
"This is great news for the people of Pontypridd and the valleys," said Gareth Thomas, the honorary chief executive officer of Ponty Rugby Ltd.
"It has been a difficult and uncertain period for everyone at Sardis Road and we now look forward with some optimism to rebuilding the Pontypridd rugby brand." Bridgend benefactor Leighton Samuel bought out Pontypridd's share in the Warriors earlier this month, which he then handed over to the Welsh Rugby Union.
He has proposed building a new stadium for the Warriors at Sardis Road, and the directors of Ponty Rugby Ltd have promised to meet with him to clarify the plans.
"The facts of the matter are that no official or trustee of Pontypridd RFC Ltd has ever received a formal proposal from Mr Samuel in respect of the Sardis Road ground which they could have properly considered," said Thomas.
"The Directors of Ponty Rugby Ltd will, however, be writing to him today to arrange a meeting to discuss with him any definitive proposals he may have for the redevelopment of Sardis Road, which would help to ensure the future of premier league and regional rugby for Pontypridd and the valleys."
