Delve will be part of the summer tour to Australia and new Zealand |
Bath's Gareth Delve has spoken of his "massive shock" and delight after being named in Steve Hansen's Wales squad to tour Australia and New Zealand in the summer.
The 20-year-old back-row player was one of the surprise selections in a squad of 30 named by Wales coach Steve Hansen on Wednesday.
"It is fantastic news. It came as a massive shock and its been a whirlwind ever since I found out," explained Delve.
The Cardiff born youngster has been plagued with injuries over the last two years.
He endured a double operation on his shoulder when he was 18 and is only just coming back to full form after tearing his cruciate ligaments.
I'd like to think that I have a chance of getting into the test team. Going on tour gives me the opportunity to really go for it. |
But Delve is looking to put those set backs behind him and cement his place in the Wales squad.
"If anything my injuries have made more hungry for it. You do think 'what if' sometimes, but it's part of the game.
"I've put them behind me and now have a wonderful chance to move on and take this brilliant opportunity," he added.
"I'd like to think that I have a chance of getting into the test team. Going on tour gives me the opportunity to really go for it.
"All I can do is my best, and if the chance does come up, then I will take it and try and get into the team for the World Cup.
"So it's up to me really to prove my selection to both the coaches and the other players.
