Phillips was assistant coach to Lyn Jones last season |
Rowland Phillips has been confirmed as head coach of Neath in the Welsh Premiership next season. Phillips was assistant coach to Lyn Jones this year, and with Jones leading the new Neath-Swansea regional side Phillips has stepped into the vacancy at the club.
Sean Holley will be the assistant coach of the regional team.
Neath-Swansea will play their first game away to Narberth on 15 August (1900 BST), before welcoming English first division outfit Worcester to the Gnoll on 22 August (1900 BST).
Phillips, who will continue to play for Neath, said he was delighted with his new role at the club.

"I have been associated with Neath RFC for almost 20 years, and it has always been a great club," he said. "The transition from player to head coach should be a smooth one.
"My role is primarily to ensure the continuation of the success that Neath RFC has enjoyed, particularly over the last three decades.
"My experience with the under-21's over the last three seasons has made me realise the importance of developing young talent, and I am looking forward to giving them the chance to play for such a big club as Neath."
Neath chief executive Mike Cuddy said: "Rowland will be responsible for ensuring Neath RFC maintains its position at the top of Welsh club rugby, and will have a dual responsibility for identifying and developing talent for the region."
