Rampant leaders Bridgend extended their unbeaten record in the Welsh Premier to 10 games with a convincing success over Pontypridd at Sardis Road.

Bridgend were dominant at all phases, winning an abundance of possession to allow their talented backs, inspired by skipper centre Gareth Thomas, to run the show.

In windy conditions on a wet pitch, Bridgend went on the attack from the kick-off and a chip ahead from Craig Richards nearly produced a score in the third minute.

Ponty responded well to early scare and pinned Bridgend for a long spell in their 22, but good defence kept them at bay.

Against the run of play, Bridgend opened the scoring with a try from Richards after a break in midfield by Thomas. Gareth Cull converted.

The visitors continued in the driving seat and, after a series of scrums near the Ponty line, the ball was whipped across the field for wing Paul Jones to cross near the corner.

Bridgend struck again close to the interval with a try from prop Phil Booth after a superb handling move in midfield.

Cull converted again to give them a 19-0 advantage.

Ponty started at a cracking pace after the interval with a try from centre Jonathan Bryant who powered over near the post after a move created from midfield. Brett Davy converted.

But Bridgend needed only five minutes to re-established their advantage. Cull collected his own grubber kick to cross over in the corner. The full-back added the extra points.

And in injury time, Bridgend replacement Mike Powell grabbed his side's fifth try from the final move of the match. Cull converted.

Ponty's Shaun James and Matthew Rees left the field with injuries to add to an ever growing injury list at Sardis Road.
