Ravens hit Swans to go top

Bridgend maintained their 100% Welsh Premiership record and moved back to the top of the league with a seven-try victory over Swansea.

It took a second-half fightback for them to overcome the All Whites, though, as tries from Arwel Thomas and Steve Winn saw the visitors claim a 21-14 advantage at the break.

Swansea centre Winn was sin binned in the 37th minute, and the Ravens' pressure built into a one-sided second period.

The home side shut out the All Whites in that second half, running in five tries and seeing fly-half Craig Warlow return a perfect kicking display.

A penalty try and a score from young centre David Bishop had kept the Ravens in the game in a scrappy first 40.

Soon after the break, though, wing Richard Mustoe crossed, Gareth Thomas ran in a 70m interception score and Matt James claimed another.

We're a young, attacking team, but are inexperienced in the wrong areas
Swansea coach Paul Moriarty

There was no way back from that onslaught for the visitors, who began to feel the increasing weight of the home pack.

Prop Chris Horsman rumbled over for a short-range try, and the scoring was rounded off as the forward pressure forced the Whites to concede a second penalty try.

Swansea coach Paul Moriarty was pleased with the spirit shown by his young side, though.

"I think Bridgend were surprised with the way we approached the game," he said, "We're not turning out to lose matches.

"We're a young, attacking team, but are inexperienced in the wrong areas."

Stradey's call

Moriarty will be leaving St Helen's next season to take over as assistant at the Llanelli regional side, and he says he will relish the challenge.

"Gareth Jenkins asked me to go down there and I said yes straight away," said Moriarty.

"I was caretaker coach at Swansea at the end of last season and we did well, then the club brought John Connolly in and put me with the Under-21s.

"The Under-21s have done outstandingly this year - I've worked hard since I finished playing.

"Now it's a great opportunity for me to go and work and learn under Gareth."
